The band has pledged to donate 100% of the proceeds from the digital downloads of this limited-edition EP’s to charitable organization's that assist those who have been affected by natural catastrophes.

Watch the iconic Latin band Rhythm Tribe from Los Angeles, whose legacy spans more than a century and four generations, perform their version of the song “GOODNIGHT” in this video. Following the recent natural disasters caused by hurricanes in Puerto Rico, the band came together to brainstorm ideas for how they could help their relatives, friends, and fans who reside in the places that were affected. The band has recorded all of these live performances as a limited-edition EP titled “RHYTHM TRIBE – LIVE.” The band has come to the conclusion that they should offer their support to the island during this difficult time, and they have committed to donating the entire amount of money that is made from the sale of digital downloads of this special EP to organization's that help victims of natural disasters.

  • Their first music video, “GOODNIGHT LIVE“, was just released today, on October 17th, and its one-of-a-kind rhythmic flow will make anyone’s heart skip a beat.

The band describes the background of the song as follows:

  • “Someone I really cared about had gone through some serious loss. They had started dealing with depression and anxiety, to the point they would have night terrors that would keep them up. I had decided to write a lullaby for them to help for times when I couldn’t be around. I was inspired by mediation music for the chord structure, as well as the rise and flow of the lyrics. We were able to successfully merge the haunting melody with a bolero rhythm to create this personal and heartfelt arrangement that just feels right.”

Bridging the gap between generations, Rhythm Tribe is now led by siblings Brisa Guzman-Sanchez on lead vocals and brother Mason on guitar and vocals, their father Thomas on guitar and bass, and close family friend Esau Garcia on drums. Representing a new generation of musicians in the family, Brisa’s stylized R&B vocals with Mason’s mastery of guitar, grounded by Thomas created a musical force that speaks to all music lovers.

The Guzman-Sanchez family has been playing music since 1915. Rafael “Fello” Sanchez is a legendary Cuartista and professional musician from Corozal, Puerto Rico. Rafael Guzman-Sanchez, also born in Corozal P.R., was a professional player who performed on radio throughout the 50’s and innovated a new rhythmic approach to Guaracha music. Thomas is the third generation of professional musicians. Mason, age 27, is a fourth-generation guitarist, and Brisa, age 24, with her R&B hypnotizing vocals, represent a new generation of musicians as a family. Thomas was inspired to reach out to his kids to see if they wanted to start a new incarnation of Rhythm Tribe. It was their collective decision that has made this new album possible.

— Together, they’ve called the album “Generations.”

What is your level of familiarity with the band that you know and love so much? To begin with, they have many similarities with us. We were given the opportunity to conduct an interview with the Rhythm Tribe team and here’s DKODING “GOODNIGHT LIVE” for you :—

Congrats On This Amazing Video! What Was The Creative Direction For GOODNIGHT?

Brisa: Well during the early development of this song, Mason came to my Dad with an idea of writing a sort of lullaby for someone who meant a lot to him and in the song you learn about mourning and healing through hardships. This song is about being there for someone you love when you realize their sadness is consuming them. Reminding them, or yourself, that you’re loved no matter what losses you have endured.

Mason: Thank you so much. It’s awesome to be able to see the completed project. Someone that was really close and dear to me had gone through a traumatic loss. It really shook them and ended up causing many sleepless nights for them due to night terrors and anxiety. So with that in mind, I decided to write them a lullaby in hopes to make the nights easier for them. I was actually inspired by meditation music which allowed me to come up with this rather haunting melody that just allows you to drift off into a calm state. Hopefully, it helps anyone else that finds the nights to be a bit of a struggle these days.

A CLOSE FRIEND ENDURED A TRAGIC LOSS. IT RATTLED THEM, GENERATING NIGHT TERRORS AND WORRY. TO HELP THEM SLEEP, I WROTE THEM A LULLABY. THE SONG IS ABOUT SUPPORTING A LOVED ONE WHILE THEY’RE UNHAPPY. REMINDING THEM OR YOURSELF YOU’RE LOVED DESPITE LOSSES.

It Is Such Amazing Work You’re Doing By Giving All Proceeds From Each Digital Download Of This EP To The Disaster Relief Organizations In Puerto Rico. What Led You To Make This Honorable Decision?

Brisa: I believe the primary reason as to why we’re donating is because of our family and friends who have been impacted not only by this recent disaster, but who were still recovering from hurricane Maria in 2017 and reoccurring natural disasters since then. We see time and time again our government continues to give minimum effort in helping rebuild and send aid to Puerto Rico. Even though we are not the biggest names out there… yet, we believe that anything helps and as long as we work together, as a team, a little effort can go a long way. We just need your help.

Mason: Well we have family over there that I had heard stories of when I was growing up, but have yet to have the chance to meet. Being an American born Puerto Rican, it honestly just felt right. After seeing the damage the hurricane left behind I had been wondering what more I could do to help. When we came up with the donation, I was really excited at the thought that our music could help people in more ways than one.

WE FEEL THAT ANYTHING HELPS AND A LITTLE EFFORT MAY GO A LONG WAY — IF WE WORK AS A TEAM. WE JUST NEED YOUR HELP. AFTER VIEWING THE HURRICANE’S DAMAGE, WE WONDERED WHAT WE COULD DO. WHEN WE DECIDED TO DONATE, WE WERE DELIGHTED THAT OUR MUSIC COULD HELP PEOPLE IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.

What Does GOODNIGHT Mean To Each Of You?

Mason: Maybe a love letter in a sense? Something you can sing to someone special that lets them know you’re there for them, however they might need you. All you can hope for is that they hear you and you can actually help them through their pain.

Brisa: This song, for me, is talking about that viewpoint of the friend or lover who is seeing an individual who is being consumed by their pain and living in it. Its about letting you know that it’s all gonna be okay and you can let yourself relax. When Im done hearing the song I feel lighter. No joke.

JUST MADE AVAILABLE TODAY “GOODNIGHT” POSSESSES A ONE-OF-A-KIND RHYTHMIC FLOW THAT HAS THE ABILITY TO PULL AT THE EMOTIONAL STRINGS OF EVERY LISTENER.

How Has Being This Family-Focused Band Helped Shape Your Group Image?

Brisa: I believe even though we are family, we focus on each others individuality and we try to share that expression when we create songs. Personally I think thats why our songs sound the way they do… forever changing with constant energy.

Mason: It definitely isn’t the most common thing you see nowadays. I think its allowed us to give the image and inspiration of family unity and creativity.  Its allowed granted us the opportunity to be openly creative and critical during our creative process, which I believe has brought about some really great music.

Why Do You Think It’s Important To Have Diversity Represented In The Music Space? How Can That Influence Our Culture?

Brisa: Music is the art of  sound, not a person. It is something that is created and should be praised amongst every and any life form that would care to lend an ear. I think our world has tried to set limits with categories for us to fit in because our brains naturally want to feel like we need to belong, but I believe this generation is a group that believes on testing those boundaries and changing perspectives. If anything I hope our music influences people to know that you set your own limits of what you can and can’t do.

Mason: Diversity opens the doors of creativity. It welcomes new ideas from differing genres from around the world, bringing new ideas for different sounds, chord structures, and rhythmic breakdowns. With all that combined, you can create some truly amazing music that runs the potential of bringing multiple cultures together to celebrate and enjoy the same tune.

MUSIC IS NOT A PERSON. IT’S MADE AND SHOULD BE PRAISED BY THOSE WHO LISTEN. OUR CIVILIZATION HAS TRIED TO IMPOSE LIMITS WITH CATEGORIES FOR US TO FIT IN SINCE OUR MINDS NATURALLY DESIRE TO BELONG. IF ANYTHING, WE THINK OUR MUSIC ENCOURAGES INDIVIDUALS TO SET THEIR OWN LIMITATIONS.

What’s Next For You?

Mason: Up next, I would have to say some new music! We’re currently in the writing process for our next album and I’m very excited for people to hear what we create.  I’m really excited for this campaign that we’re currently in, and I hope that we can help who we can over in Puerto Rico. Wouldn’t mind making this a regular thing either.

Thomas: We are releasing this Rhythm Tribe LIVE EP and are  now preparing for live concerts starting at the end of the year. The group is also in rehearsal getting ready to start a new album in January.

WE’RE EXCITED FOR THIS INITIATIVE AND HOPE WE CAN HELP PUERTO RICO. WE’RE RELEASING RHYTHM TRIBE LIVE EP AND PLANNING FOR LIVE CONCERTS THIS YEAR. THE BAND IS ALSO REHEARSING FOR A JANUARY RECORD RELEASE, WITH NEW MUSIC TO BE RELEASED IN THE SAME TIME AS THE LIVE EP.
